This 1951 film was adapted from Lewis Carrol's The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland with a few scenes from the sequel, Through the Looking Glass. This story is full of adventure, wonder and curiosity. I definitely recommend that you read both of the books before rewatching the film again. It just gives a better idea for the audience to understand the story, well that is just in my opinion.
